Prof. LI Min’s research postgraduate student Mr. Sravan G. S from Mr. & Mrs. Ko Chi Ming Centre for Parkinson’s Disease Research has passed his Ph.D. thesis oral examination on 20 August 2021. Sravan has done astounding research work on an Alzheimer’s disease (AD) treating drugs, Protopine (PRO) and its derivative (PRO-Br). Prof. LI Min’s research team has identified these compounds as novel HDAC6 inhibitors. Mr. Sravan, in his Ph.D. dissertation work, has ascertained the anti-AD activity of PRO and PRO-Br in vitro and in in vivo experimental models. This work has been published in the peer-reviewed journal Phytomedicine. The research team is looking forward to developing these compounds further as clinically competitive therapeutic agents for treating AD patients.
